Through the Garden Gate

The National Iron Bank in Norfolk CT is presenting an exhibition of Leslie Watkins’ nature prints from October 30th through December 30th, 2017. The illustrations are featured in the Norfolk publication Norfolk Now and accompany Watkins’ monthly gardening column Through the Garden Gate. The column discusses a wide array of garden and nature subjects ranging from the practical to the philosophical.

The individual hand painted prints are available for purchase at the Iron Bank in Norfolk. Orders for additional framed, prints may be placed with Watkins. Because each print is signed and hand colored each one is unique and original. The cost per print is $200. and each one comes with a copy of the article.

Learn to use an assortment of techniques such as hand stamping, heat embossing and die cutting that will give you professional looking results. All the tools and materials will be provided at no extra charge. We will show you how to put together beautiful designs using fine archival papers and embellishments to create unique gifts in time for the holidays and for any special occasion. Everyone will make and take home a beautiful boxed set of notecards and receive a gift bag of goodies.

Chef Lisa will be serving us a special brunch buffet with a generous assortment of delicious entrees followed by dessert and Prosecco. Choose from a selection of pastries, homemade jam, fresh fruit, quiche tartlets, grilled cheese, chicken salad crostini and creamy tomato soup. And that's just the beginning!

WaterWorks offers instruction in nature based painting, landscape painting, botanical illustration and traditional watercolor techniques. Classes are open to all, beginners through advanced students and are held both indoors and on location in nature preserves, gardens and art centers.

Leslie Watkins’ botanical watercolors and nature studies have appeared internationally on postage stamps, and in books, magazines and fine home products. She has taught enthusiastic students for over 25 years. Both aspiring and experienced painters benefit from the classes and have fun learning. Watkins has exhibited at The Columbus Museum, The Lyman Allyn Art Museum, The National Arts Club and The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. She is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and the New England Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. She is the founding director of the NWCT Berkshire Plein Air Painters.

In addition to the exhibition, there will be a special two day workshop and painting demonstration on the use of the Prismatic Palette; The concept, how to get set up, how to mix the colors, and how to use the palette in plein air. On the second day of the workshop we will meet outside and paint. There will be plenty of individual instruction, followed by a critique back inside. Class size will be limited to 10.
